Early election in 2011 when Mr Cameron lost to David Cameron, but gained his seat from Mr Corbyn, has been a remarkable achievement for the leader who had campaigned for his party to remain in power.
Although the Conservatives' vote has slipped since 2012, it still remains the second largest after Labour – and it has doubled since 2014.
The survey also highlights the strength of the coalition party across the UK, reflecting some of the challenges facing Jeremy Corbyn as he heads toward 2020 as leader.
Just under 40 per cent of supporters want the Labour party to win an overall majority – the highest since 2005. Of those in favour of a victory, just over 30 per cent say they are "strongly" or "somewhat" certain that Mr Corbyn can keep his seat in the 2015 general election.
On other priorities, the poll also found voters in key areas were more likely to vote for Theresa May's Conservatives on health (43 per cent) than they are for Jeremy Corbyn's Labour (29 per cent).
The findings were presented in the run up to the election in September, which saw Mr Corbyn's party be branded a "farce".
He made a late intervention to offer his strong support to the election, which saw the Conservatives remain in power, but also lost their majority. He also campaigned for Labour MPs to continue serving under his leadership as party leader.

Mr Corbyn's party suffered a crushing loss in the 2017 general election in which its share of the vote fell from 55 to 45 per cent.
This time, only one seat is predicted to be contested in London, but that seat is close to being safe for Labour. That seat is in Lambeth, where former Labour leader Ed Miliband was re-elected for a second term, with the party holding 52 per cent of the vote.
The other seats are largely decided by marginal seats with Labour in the lead and the Conservatives in a position where they would not expect to hold a majority, such as West Dorset, Eastleigh, Southall, Southwark and Tower Hamlets.
But the poll showed the Conservatives will have a huge advantage over Labour in London as well as in the Labour heartlands of Liverpool, North Yorkshire, Sheffield, and the South West, where Labour are in the minority.
More and more, it appears that the Tories hold the balance of power, as Mr Corbyn's party now holds only 20 of Britain's 32 parliamentary seats and Labour holds 30 of the 32 in the capital.

Coalitions regional plan described as pork barrel tax would create an investment tax in a way they don't currently. That means if you invest in the economy through a new plant, then you are paying back income taxes on those investments as well.
"That's a change in how businesses operate, how investments are made, and how the revenue is spent," said Jeff Smith, a spokesman for the Colorado Petroleum Council. "If this plan is enacted, it will force a massive increase in capital investment in a state that is already struggling with high unemployment and a $10 billion deficit this fiscal year. There is little that we can do to stop those negative economic forces in Colorado."
Smith said the state is already at risk of having a massive tax hike by 2021.
Colorado's new tax is due to take effect July 1. The state's existing $36-a-gallon tax comes out to be roughly $18 a barrel. The rate will double to $46 a barrel next fiscal year, at which point sales would have to go up another 6 cents a gallon.
Colorado Governor John Hickenlooper was the most vocal in the past when talking about taxing and supporting industries such as electric companies and the oil and gas industry.
Hickenlooper has consistently urged the state government to cut red tape in the energy industry, which already contributes billions a year to the state.
But the Colorado Oil and Gas Association has argued that oil and gas production does not grow quickly enough and would likely see job cuts as a result.
"The oil and gas industry is in an environment where it is in crisis, especially with the climate changing and with an economy shrinking," Smith said. "We're the state where the largest share of jobs are in manufacturing, so the tax would hurt the middle class as much as it would the top one per cent. When one in three of all job growth in Colorado is in the energy sector, that's bad for the economy. It's bad for our economy.
Smith said other states, such as Vermont and Alaska, also saw a big economic impact from lower oil prices in the 1970s and 80s.
"That made them less friendly, more competitive," he said. "It's a different dynamic, and it's not the type of environment that is working well for us and others that have been operating this way in the past."
The tax would be the first tax levy on the energy sector since an Illinois tax was introduced in 1995.
